Real Action for Leichhardt!

Welcome to my website

Happy New Year!  I hope you managed to have a break and enjoy spending time with friends and family over the festive season, as I did, because I know that 2013 is going to be a very exciting year.

I have just received confirmation that I have been formally endorsed – unopposed - as the LNP’s candidate for Leichhardt in the upcoming federal election.  I’m looking forward to advocating for local projects including the establishment of the Tropical Campus of the Australian Institute of Sport and related infrastructure, ongoing upgrades to the Bruce Highway, and supporting the creation of a new meeting and entertainment precinct in Port Douglas alongside the lagoon and waterfront redevelopment.

I’m also committed to the sustainable, multiple use of our oceans and waterways, and, of course, rejecting the lockout mentality promoted by the current Labor government through the proposed blanket World Heritage Listing of Cape York and the Coral Sea Marine park.

It’s time for a change in government - the election can’t come soon enough!

In other matters, early progress is also being made in relation to the lack of affordable or available property insurance.  I have been appointed to a Coalition Policy Development Committee charged with identifying potential solutions that can be formulated into a policy to take to the election.  On February 1, myself and the other MPs and Senators on the Committee will submit all the ideas that have come into our offices. These will then be narrowed down, with the most promising to be investigated further. I will keep you up to date with developments.

At the very top of the electorate, in the Torres Strait, the tuberculosis issue is ongoing.  It was very good to see the PNG government crack down on suspected corruption and mismanagement at a number of PNG hospitals, including that on Daru Island.  This is validation of my – and others – concerns and I cannot stress enough that a full review of AusAID’s spending in the region is needed, along with a frank examination of the outcomes they are achieving.

Please spend some time on my site, browsing the issues affecting Leichhardt, and learning about my background and role as your Federal Member of Parliament. The contact details for my offices in Cairns, Thursday Island and Canberra are all here, along with links to useful government and local organisations.  Pages for Media Releases, Videos, Photos and Speeches are constantly being updated.

You may find it interesting to learn about the intrepid explorer Friedrich Leichhardt, especially as 2013 marks the 150th anniversary of his travels.  Stay tuned to find out how we in Leichhardt will commemorate his achievements.   Finally, have your say through the Community Survey, register your opposition to the Carbon Tax or use the online form to email my office directly.

As always, I will continue to fight for positive outcomes for the people of this region. If there is something I can help you with, please feel free to contact me via Email, or through your Local Office.

Kind regards,

Warren
