Welcome to my website

With a very busy year in 2011 now behind us, I am very much looking forward to the opportunities and challenges ahead in 2012. There is no doubt that 2011 was a tough year, with cyclone Yasi devastating communities in the Far North and our economy continuing to struggle, but I will continue to work with you and fight to achieve tangible outcomes for the electorate of Leichhardt.

I am completely focused on continuing the work we started in 2011 to tackle issues such as strata title insurance, the Labor-Green proposal to lock up the Coral Sea, the urgent need to repair and build sea walls on islands in the Torres Strait and the ongoing fight to maintain health services to prevent the spread of tuburculosis from Papua New Guinea to the Torres Strait.

The establishment of a business and sporting group dedicated to building sporting infrastructure for this region is one goal that has been kicked that I am especially proud of. This group has worked hard to develop a list of ‘shovel ready’ projects that will commence in earnest to get our economy and our construction industry back on its feet. The development of a sports tourism and sports medicine industry for the north will be the end result of this plan and will see our economy diversified. I am looking forward to working with the group I have set up to secure the funding required to bring this vision to fruition. Our plan is to position the Far North as the Tropical Campus for the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and utilise our natural environmental attributes.

Fighting to get rid of Wild Rivers legislation and the P.E.W. driven Coral Sea Closure is another reason I decided to re-enter political life again. I will continue to make sure that the indigenous and economic rights of Cape York are not hindered by this legislation and I look forward to seeing its abolition.

I have also been supporting Street Level Youth Care in its ambition to build a home for Street Kids.

This is a positive venture that has engaged all levels and groups of the community as businesses and individuals come together to provide fundraising opportunities and materials for this home. There is still so much more for me to do and I am committed to working to deliver my strong local plan in full.
